4.4.0 Safe to install
Plasma is a secure messenger designed for private chatting using QR codes. It provides a platform where users can communicate securely by scanning each other's QR codes.
To ensure the safety and privacy of its users, Plasma incorporates several key features:
- All messages are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that the content remains protected.
- Encryption keys are generated locally on the user's device, preventing any unauthorized access from third parties.
- A Plasma account is not associated with a phone number, eliminating the need for users to provide this personal information.
- User anonymity is maintained by not allowing others to locate individuals through their nicknames.
People connect on Plasma through what is known as "spaces." These spaces can be created by any service, company, or organization and can accommodate an unlimited number of members. To join a specific space and interact with its members, users simply need to scan the space's unique QR code using Plasma's built-in scanner.
When it comes to initiating dialogue within a space, one must first join the space by scanning its QR code, and then scan the QR code of the desired individual to start the conversation.
It's important to note that users must be aware of the websites that host the Plasma QR codes of the individuals they wish to chat with. Additionally, when browsing on a smartphone, direct links can be used instead of QR codes to join a space or start a conversation. However, users need to know where to find these specific Plasma links.
All dialogues and associated data, such as text messages, photos, videos, and contacts, are stored solely on the user's device. This ensures that only the user has access to their conversations and that no one else, including Plasma itself, can view the content. If a dialogue is deleted or a user leaves a space, all data related to that dialogue is permanently removed.
To further enhance privacy, photos and videos are not automatically saved to the device's gallery, preventing accidental exposure of sensitive content to others.
